Readings for 32nd Sunday
in Ordinary Time (7th Nov)
2 Macc 7:1-2, 9-14.
Written about 120 BC 2nd Maccabees details the struggle
of faithful Jews for religious freedom. A mother and
her seven sons are cruelly martyred yet all the while
proclaim their faith in resurrection and judgment.
2 Thess 2:16 –
3:5. This is one of St Paul’s earliest
letters and he calls God’s blessing on his new
converts. “May the Lord turn your hearts towards
the love of God and the fortitude of Christ.”
Lk 20:27-38. The
ill considered objections of some Jews of the Sadducee
sect give Jesus the opportunity to teach the absolute
certainty “of a place in the other world and
in the resurrection from the dead....for those who
are judged worthy...”
